How to add regional pricing to Lemon Squeezy
Lemon Squeezy is your merchant of record, so it handles sales tax and VAT for you. What it doesn't do is charge a lower price in countries where your price is too high.
There's no regional pricing switch and no country rule on discount codes. But Lemon Squeezy's discounts are flexible enough to build it yourself. Here's how, plus one thing to know about where Lemon Squeezy is headed.
What Lemon Squeezy discounts can do
Lemon Squeezy's discount codes cover most of what regional pricing needs:
- Percentage off or a fixed amount.
- Limited to specific products or variants.
- A start date, an end date, and a maximum number of uses.
- For subscriptions: once, for a set number of months, or forever.
What's missing is any idea of location. A code works for whoever types it. So the country logic has to live on your site, before checkout.
Set it up by hand
First, group countries by discount. Three or four groups is enough to start. Our guide to choosing PPP discount percentages helps with the numbers.
Next, create a discount for each group in Lemon Squeezy. Codes use capital letters and numbers, like LATAM40. Limit each one to the products you want to discount, so a course code doesn't also work on your templates.
For subscriptions, choose the duration carefully. "Once" gives the regional price on the first payment only. "Forever" keeps it at every renewal. Say which one you picked in your offer. Our post on regional pricing at renewal explains why it matters.
Skip the copy and paste
Every extra step loses a few buyers. Lemon Squeezy lets you prefill the discount in the checkout link. Add ?checkout[discount_code]=LATAM40 to your buy link and the code is already applied when the page opens.
That means your site only needs to pick the right link for each visitor. The buyer clicks, sees the lower price, and pays.
Keep codes from leaking
A code meant for Brazil works just as well for someone in Canada who finds it online. Limit each code to the right products, cap its uses, and replace codes regularly so old ones stop working. Our guide to reducing coupon abuse covers the rest.
Or let Evendeals run it
Keeping dozens of codes in sync by hand gets old fast. Evendeals connects to Lemon Squeezy with an API key from your Lemon Squeezy settings. Then:
- You set a discount per country group, as a percentage or fixed amount.
- Evendeals creates the discount codes in Lemon Squeezy, limited to the products you pick.
- A banner shows each visitor the code for their country.
- On paid plans, codes rotate by time, uses, or views, so leaked codes expire.
It works with one-time products and subscriptions. Your existing Lemon Squeezy codes stay untouched.
